Unit Stills Photographer — Conversations with Friends

It was a realprivilege to serve as the Unit Stills Photographer on the BBC/Hulu adaptation of Sally Rooney’s acclaimed novel Conversations with Friends. Immersed in the world of Frances, Bobbi, Nick, and Melissa, I had the unique opportunity to capture the nuanced dynamics of their relationships through behind-the-scenes photography and on-set moments that complemented the series’ intimate storytelling.

Directed by Lenny Abrahamson and co-directed by Leanne Welham, the series stars Alison Oliver as Frances, Sasha Lane as Bobbi, Joe Alwyn as Nick, and Jemima Kirke as Melissa. The narrative delves into the complexities of youth, identity, and the intricacies of modern relationships, set against the backdrop of Dublin’s vibrant literary scene.

Filming took place across various locations, including Trinity College Dublin, Hardwicke Street, and Berkeley Library, capturing the essence of Dublin’s urban landscape. The production also ventured to Hvar, Croatia, providing a Mediterranean contrast to the Irish setting.

As the film stills photographer, I was entrusted with documenting both the subtle and overt moments that defined the series. From candid interactions between cast members to the serene Dublin streets, my images aimed to encapsulate the emotional depth and authenticity of the narrative. These stills contributed to the series’ visual identity across promotional materials, press campaigns, and social media narratives.
